Two women discover that they can read each other’s minds.

A new channel of communication has opened up between them. At first they are excited, elated.
They talk in circles, scheme, and speculate. In the mind of the other, they say what they cannot say
out loud. They feel seen, they’re living the dream of unlimited, immediate connection… So why is
it still so hard to understand each other?

If Machines Could Cry is a sci-fi exploration of intimacy and the technologies that bring us closer
together and farther apart. The human body is imagined as a living receiver: a channel that can
sense and amplify the inner thoughts of others. When communication is mediated through a body
turned machine, what does it really mean to listen to the ones we love?
