How can we deal with stimuli in a world that is all about efficiency? With CONTENT WARNING: weinig prikkels, Speels Collectief searches for a place where even people who are sensitive to stimuli can descend and be present.

Expect a wavy, fluffy world where you can be your very gentle self: earplugs galore, eye masks within reach, blankets for everyone and hopefully a low-pressure rave.

Director Sanne Arbouw, who herself struggles with irritability, anxiety and panic attacks, explores with performers - ‘remote’ and ‘on stage’ - how we can move in the stimulus flow of life. Where is the humanity and stimulus-friendliness in the design of public space? Can we create a new ‘stimulus norm’? And what if you have conflicting desires and sometimes actually do need stimuli?

Accessibility

We make the performance as accessible as possible. This is what you can expect:

  • A relaxation room
  • Low-incentive facilities, such as earplugs, blanket, eye mask and headphones - especially bring your own if you feel more comfortable doing so
  • A ‘floor angel’ / point of contact is available for questions or support
  • The foyer is decorated in a less stimulating way. The lights are dimmed and there is no music, for example.
  • Our stimulus guide will help you find out more about the stimulating moments in the show. Check out our stimulus guide below.
  • The performance lasts 1 hour and 15 minutes (without intermission).

Sensory guide

In our sensory guide, you can read about the stimulating moments in the performance. This will help you prepare for your theatre visit, if you feel the need. This document is about sensory stimuli, such as loud noises and light effects.

View the guide via the link below: 'Read the sensory guide'. The text contains substantive information about the performance. We will, of course, not give away major spoilers, but if you prefer to be completely surprised, it is better not to read it.

Please note that the English sensory guide will be available soon. You can read the Dutch version in the meantime below:

About Speels Collectief

Speels Collectief is a diverse, mixed-ability theatre company. We aim for a composition of performers, makers and staff with as much variation in age, gender and ethnicity, among others, and our company consists of people with and without (physical/mental/social) disability. People who face social exclusion in any form can be full members of our society.

Speels Collectief also embodies diversity and inclusiveness in the methods and themes of our performances. We work from everyone's individual potential, and the experiences of our performers and makers are central to our performances. Thus, we pull ideal images and social norms off their pedestal, and seek new perspectives. Speels Collectief questions the norm, seeks wonder and embraces the unusual.

CONTENT WARNING: weinig prikkels is a Company performance. The Company is reconstituted for each performance. To do this, the artistic team looks for talented people with diverse perspectives that fit the theme of the performance. In cooperation with the team, this Company creates a high-level performance and goes on tour throughout the Netherlands.

About the makers

Sanne Arbouw

Sanne Arbouw (b. 1994) graduated from ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Arnhem in 2016. She is co-founder of and artistic director and director at diverse and mixed-abled theatre company Speels Collectief since 2014. Among others, she has directed the Company performances USUALLY I'M ON TOP and LAY DOWN AND LIFT ME UP. She is also a guest lecturer at several art academies, including HKU, Fontys Hogeschool voor de Kunsten and ArtEZ University of the Arts.

Her expertise in accessibility and inclusivity in the performing arts means she is often featured in panel discussions and gives lectures and workshops. She assembles the cast Sanne works with as diversely as possible to show the widest possible range of perspectives on the floor. By juxtaposing these perspectives, she questions the norm and breaks through normative ideal images in her performances.

Ulrike Doszmann

Ulrike Doszmann (born 1970) came to the Netherlands to study at the Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg. After graduating in 1998, she started creating her own performances. For Speels Collectief, she choreographed USUALLY I'M ON TOP, LAY DOWN AND LIFT ME UP and LOVE ME BY THE HOUR. Ulrike combines her work as a choreographer with work as a dancer and performer for, among others, dance company Vloeistof. She has been teaching Movement Classes at Fontys for several years.
