Eat royally in Zaal 3
We offer a delicious meal for at every performance at Zaal 3! In the evening there is something new on the menu almost every day. For any afternoon performance there is often a lunch option. The produce that is in season lead the menu and recipes. Moreover, our kitchen is often inspired by the Mediteranian and other bold flavours. It is possible to walk in without a reservation, but we cannot guarantee that we're able to serve you or your group. You can reserve a table when you buy a ticket, or with the button below.
Some friday nights we have the offer ‘Patatje met’ (see below) and we exclusively serve fries. On those days the standard ticket for a meal is not an option.
Italian nights at Theatre at Spui
In Theatre at Spui we work together with Restaurant Pazze e Pizze. Every season you can choose a new delicious meal, from homemade lasagne to a wintery minestrone soup or a lusciously filled cannelloni. Before your main course we also serve a variety of antipasti (starters). Think potato-pecorino croquettes, traditional focaccia or arancini (fried risotto for a crispy outer layer).
Patatje met...
Or you can choose a Dutch classic; the bag of friet (fries). We often have a special discount where you can pick a ticket for a performance in combination with the fries for a reduced price. Click the button below to see which performances are on offer!
What do you recommend for a first visit with (small) children?
Pick a performance that fits age wise for your child.
With every performance for children there is an advisory age which has been set by the creators of the performance. The creators look at the length of the performance, the average attention span of children, the theme of the performance and if there are any spooky elements. Do you want to visit us with your toddler of 5 years old for a 4+ show, but you also have 2-year-old toddler? If possible, we advise you to leave the 2-year-old at home. There is a big chance that it won't be fun for the youngest and will distract the other (older) children.
You can always go out, but not always back in.
A (first) visit can be pretty nerve wrenching. How your child will react the first time is always a surprise. You might want to go outside for any number of reasons, which is always possible. However, it is dependent on the performance if you can get back in. Your movement can be very distracting for the audience and actors, so this has been determined beforehand. To prevent having to go out, you can go to the toilet beforehand or take a small toy, that doesn't make any light or sound, or something to eat to try keep their attention.
Make sure to book a baby show for babies.
We strongly dissuade visitors to bring their baby unless the performance has been specifically made for babies. With shows for smaller children, it is made for them, so a disinterested baby is very distracting. Also having to leave during the show can be very distracting for everyone involved.
Where can I sit in Theatre at Spui and Zaal 3?
Theatre at Spui has two stages; Zaal 1 and Zaal 2. Both stages at Spui and the stage at Zaal 3 are a type of stage called: vlakkevloertheater. At these locations you are closer to the actors, and you can often pick you own seat. This means when you meet someone in the foyer it's no problem to sit together! The only exception to this is for Zaal 1, this stage always has dedicated row and seat numbers. Hopefully we'll see you soon!
Where can I sit in the Royal Theatre?
If you're going to visit us in the Royal Theatre you will find a row and seat number on your ticket. If you want you can check the seating arrangements beforehand, check the link here*.
*This is the standard arrangement of four different price points, however it's possible for your performance to have the same price for every seat. If your ticket says ‘Vrije plaatskeuze’ it means that there are no designated seats.
Are your theatres (wheelchair) accessible?
Yes, all our locations are accessible with a wheelchair. For a performance in the Royal Theatre we do appreciate if you would let us know beforehand at service@hnt.nl. At the Royal Theatre we have dedicated seats for wheelchair users which can be sold as regular seats for sold out performances. For more information regarding your visit with a wheelchair click the link.
What do you offer in terms of accessibility?
In general, check with us beforehand to see what's possible! Click the link for a detailed description, but we try to facilitate any theatre visit.

Our theatres are easily accessible with public transport or your own mode of transport. You can park your bike relatively safely and close by. At both our Royal Theatre and Theatre at Spui you can reserve a parking space at a parking garage. Click the link for more information regarding parking and any possible traffic issues.
What happens if a performance is cancelled?
If a performance is cancelled due to, for example, an illness, there are multiple options regarding your ticket. You can either 1) receive a refund, 2) receive a voucher, 3) change the date or lastly transfer your ticket as a donation to The Nationale Theatre. Click the link for more information regarding your ticket.
Can I go inside once a performance has started?
No, sadly it's usually the case that you're unable to go inside once the show has started. Make sure to check that starting time (‘aanvang') and correct location /address before heading out.
