In ATMEN verwelkomt Nicole Beutler je in een onontdekt stukje toekomst. Het is 2200: een pulserend, vibrerend en ademend paradijs waarin de natuur haar plek heroverd heeft. Het rode pluche in de theaterzaal maakt nu deel uit van een levend ecosysteem. 

ATMEN is de tweede voorstelling van de trilogie RITUALS OF TRANSFORMATION waarin Beutler op zoek gaat naar een nieuwe balans tussen mens, dier, plant, fungus en technologie. In het eerste deel ‘GINKGO or: 56 million years ago there were palm trees on the North Pole’ nemen we afscheid van de door mensen gemaakte wereld. 

ATMEN is een experiment in speculatieve fictie. De reis gaat verder. Door cycli en cycli, transformeert alles voortdurend. Wat brokkelt af, wat blijft en wat groeit er bovenop? Dit deel van de trilogie gebruikt de schouwburg als een overgroeide ruïne waarin bacteriën, schimmels, flora en fauna vruchtbare bodem vinden. Het is een levende ruimte waarin een collectieve transformatie plaatsvindt. Samen met hybride wezens wordt het publiek onderdeel van dit ecosysteem.

In ATMEN you will be taken to a future in which the theater is overgrown by nature. In the damp and vibrating depths, the earth has taken over its place. A wild promise of a reality that is still unimaginable takes shape gradually. Earth is finally catching its breath and becoming a pulsating post-apocalyptic paradise full of life. Fragments of romantic nature songs echo from the shadows.  
Hybrid creatures emerge in the moonlight. In this immersive visual performance, we are on our way to a new balance.
